Artist’s notes

Swimming and being at the pool has been a constant in my life. As a boy I was always fascinated (and impressed) by the older boys who could swallow dive off the top platform. It was an elegant act, brave and machoistic. A rights of passage to manhood? Akin to the to the Naghol (Ngol) or land diving ceremony, practised on the Pentecost Island of the South Pacific republic of Vanuatu.
