We speak not just to be heard, but to chase the echo of our own voice. Our ability to listen increasingly eroding away against a modern media tide of foaming white noise. The tragedy is not our deafness but our preference for it. Echo is a metaphorical foray into that which we readily dismiss and the trivia which we pull into sharp focus. The one eared man only contemplates his own voice—his singular perspective; trapping the bird to selfishly hear its song,—not understanding or caring that all it really wishes to offer is a scream.
