Exaggeration and disproportionate figure representation is explored here, while retaining a sense of corporal balance and line to maintain a dignity and elegance reminiscent of nude studies by the Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani (Reclining nude 1919 for example).

Artist’s Notes:
This work reflects a none conformist approach to figure representation. Although it is perhaps recognisable as depicting a typical (conformist) life drawing study with its relaxed posture and viewer’s sense that the figure is striking a deliberate pose, the painting explores inflated and disproportionate body parts with broad, energetic brush strokes while maintaining a sense of beauty, calmness and tranquility.
