A mature man encircled. He supports a fantasy animal inflatable which, in turn, supports him as he takes to some imminent watery surroundings.
Here the rubber ring is a symbol of support, childhood need, of learning, adventure, fantasy and fun. We all need support at various stages of our lives…don’t we?

A work of whimsy with profound intent. A look at life from one end to the other in a single snap shot. As we progress in one way we regress in another.

Anchor man (mesa) makes for a commanding home centre piece or business premises entrance.

Artist’s notes
A work offering strength, beauty and innocence in a human frame not readily associated with standard Western cultural aesthetics and that contemplates our need for support at various stages of life. The robust figure is loaded with notions examining culture, family, modern independence, maturity and growth presented with humility and a touch of humour.

The inflatable: an air filled sack—are we not essentially an air filled sack?
Bellows simply opening and closing over a short span of time?
When there is no continuous, rhythmic inhalation and exhalation—
no filling of the lungs with fresh air, we are done.

Strictly limited edition of 9 pieces, numbered and signed by the artist.
